ITW Formex Materials for Electrical and Thermal Applications

ITW Formex™ specializes in flame retardant material for use in electrical insulation and barrier applications. Fabrico works with ITW Formex to design custom converting solutions that meet the demanding requirements of the industrial and consumer electrical markets.

Formex is a FR polypropylene film used to replace fish paper, electrical papers, thermoplastic materials, and injection molded parts for electrical insulation in markets that include: computers and components, automotive, power supplies, power distribution, telecommunications systems, medical equipment, consumer products, lighting, TVs, and appliances.

Less rigid than glass/polyester material, ITW Formex can be easily heat formed and bent, and holds its shape without reinforcement. In manny applications, you can also use a thinner piece of ITW Formex material providing a critical davantage where space is limited. Strong dielectric properties and flame retardant properties are also important.

ITW Formex is also generally less expensive than glass/polyester material, especially in applications that require a barrier between circuit boards or between circuit boards and a housing enclosure. It is also used as an alternative to fish paper, especially where it may be subject to harsh environments, for example in applications with LEDs for outdoor lighting.
