DuPont Materials for Electrical Insulation

DuPont™ offers several materials that are ideal for electric insulation in motor, generator, and transformer applications.

DuPont Nomex® is an aramid paper-based material with superb characteristics for electric insulation, as well as thermal protection. Nomex is well-suited for a wide range of electrical insulation applications, including today’s high performance electric motors found in a range of rotating equipment from generators and wind turbines to hybrid and electric vehicles. Nomex also delivers outstanding thermal protection and mechanical toughness.

Nomex delivers the following capabilities:

  • Decreased rate of failure
  • Less energy consumption, especially important in HEVs and EVs
  • Improved thermal protection
  • Improved reliability, as well as shock and vibration resistance
  • Long product life
  • Excellent fire resistance

In addition to Nomex, DuPont offers Kapton® and Teijin Films Mylar® for motor and magnet wire insulation. Kapton is a polyimide film that offers:

  • Dielectric strength
  • Thermal performance
  • Tensile strength
  • Chemical resistance
  • Thin film

Teijin Films Mylar is a polyester film used to ensure isolation of wires and components and enhance protection from harsh operating conditions. This material provides:

  • Strength and toughness with good mechanical forming and easy roll-to-roll lamination
  • High dielectric strength
  • Resistant against chemical attack
  • Good thermal endurance

Fabrico works with DuPont in a variety of applications where electrical insulation and thermal protection/management may be required. Fabrico offers slit, chopped, die-cut, discrete, and multi-layer insulation parts produced from Nomex, Kapton, and Teijin Films Mylar.

DuPont, Nomex, Teijin Films Mylar, and Kapton are Trademarks of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company.
