EMC/EMI/RFI Shielding

Fabrico provides expertise in materials selection and die-cutting for EMC/EMI/RFI shielding applications in electronics, including consumer electronics. These materials can be die-cut into components to protect sensitive electronics from internal emissions or to protect users from external device emissions. 

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding blocks the induction of electromagnetic radiation, produced as a normal by-product of electrical circuit operation, from interfering with other circuits. An insulating material is typically used as a shield or barrier to separate different circuits. Radio frequency interference (RFI) blocks magnetic radiation from traveling from one circuit to another by separating the circuits with a barrier insulation material.

Materials can include gaskets and seals made from highly absorptive elastomers that bridge uneven seams in electronic packaging. EMI/RFI shielding is required in consumer electronics including televisions, radios, cell phones, and computers, as well as devices used in medical, automotive, and aerospace applications. Shielding is typically provided by Faraday cages that surround components and serve as barriers. These cages can be made of flexible materials supplied by manufacturers such as 3M, Parker Chomerics, Laird Technologies, Saint-Gobain, ITW, and Intertape Polymer Group.
