Converting Thermally Conductive Materials for Temperature-Sensitive Batteries

Advanced battery/storage technology for solar applications are critical to the efficient integration of renewable energy sources into the electrical grid. Effective battery storage provides both energy management and spike power to balance loads and assure power continuity and quality.

Manufacturers and installers engaged in renewable energy projects are looking for batteries that are more powerful and less costly. Fabrico can help design engineers working on battery applications for renewable energy with innovative product design, robust materials and adhesives testing and sourcing, rapid prototyping, and one of the world’s most extensive converting facilities. Whether you are building sealed lead acid (SLA), nickel cadmium, nickel hydride, nickel iron, zinc-air, or lithium iron batteries, Fabrico provides:

  • Thermal management and heat dissipation materials
  • Electrical insulation and shielding materials
  • EMC/EMI insulation materials for safe and efficient operation

Fabrico converts a wide range of thermally conductive materials for the dispersion of heat in temperature-sensitive battery applications. Thermal management material helps transfer heat away from components into heat sinks or the ambient environment, or spread excessive heat in one area across the surface of an assembly where it can be further dissipated.

Fabrico stocks numerous thermally conductive materials from 3M™, DuPont, Chomerics, Laird, and Von Roll.

Electrical insulation materials can be die-cut to meet a variety of size/shape requirements. Fabrico can recommend and test the appropriate insulation materials and create both discrete and multilayer parts to meet specifications for dielectric strength, temperature resistance, and resistance to tearing and puncturing.

Fabrico also assists engineers in complying with EMI/RFI shielding requirements for increased product functionality. Materials include electrical tape with aluminum and copper backings for grounding, bonding, and EMI shielding. Conductive and non-conductive adhesive systems are available. These materials can be die-cut into shapes or laminated to other products.
