Adhesives for Transportation

There are a wide range of applications for transportation where adhesives provide an advantage in bonding, joining, and sealing solutions over traditional spot welding and other metal fastening technologies.

For exterior panels used in truck trailers, ambulances, RVs and recreational vehicles, thin bonding acrylic foam tapes, and structural adhesives and sealants are effective alternatives that eliminate the rough surfaces of welds and the rattling and panel flexing of metal fasteners.

These adhesives are resilient, dampening vibration that can shear weld points, pull out rivets, and initiate cracks. They have a high peel strength and resist moisture, solvents, and UV light. Logos, graphics and trim provide other opportunities where adhesives provide aesthetic as well as functional advantages over metal joining techniques.

The interior of automobiles is another area where adhesives are playing a major role. For example, thin bonding tapes can invisibly adhere window switch plates and other plastic trim pieces to hard-to-adhere surfaces such as vinyl substrates. Foam tapes can also be die-cut to provide sound and vibration dampening for auto interiors.
