Advances in Junction Box Mounting and Sealing Systems
Kennesaw, GA, USA - January 6, 2012
– Fabrico, the leader in design and manufacturing services for flexible materials and bonding, joining, and sealing solutions, announces new liquid and tape solutions for solar panel junction box mounting and sealing.
Assembly cost and connection reliability are critical considerations in solar manufacturing. New advances in junction box mounting and sealing technology can help solar panel manufacturers reduce costs and improve connectivity for longer lifecycles.
Fabrico can provide both liquid and tape technologies that deliver:
• Reliable bonding throughout a range of temperatures and conditions;
• Easy inclusion in the manufacturing and assembly process;
• Resistance to degradation from UV light and extreme temperature cycling;
• Very low moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR);
• Good adhesion to metal, glass, TPT, and fluorocarbons.
New advances in liquids, like silicone RTV for junction box mounting and sealing, are available with fast fixturing times, greater fixturing strength, and handling strength in less than 20 minutes. Elasticity has also been improved to provide more flexibility for junction box mounting. Liquid structural adhesives, elastomers, and thermally and electrically conductive adhesives are all available to provide new mounting and edge sealing opportunities.
High strength acrylic foam tapes are also an attractive alternative for junction box mounting and sealing. These tapes have excellent load bearing characteristics with conformability, high tensile strength, high shear and peel adhesion, and high resistance to plasticizer migration. They can resist very high wind forces and can handle high UV exposure for extended periods of time, without degrading or discoloring.
Fabrico has a full, in-house test lab to qualify adhesives and materials early in the design stage for their suitability for the application. This allows Fabrico to suggest adhesives that will best meet the application before the design is final and an investment is made.
